Analysis of post-2000 forest cover change in the Mount Elgon ecosystem using the Hansen Global Forest Change Data (2018)

This study was conducted as part of my preliminary analyses of Mount Elgon ecosystem (before developing my dissertation question). 

Introduction 

In this brief analysis, I used the Hansen Global Forest Change Data (HGFCD) from Hansen et al. (2013) to analyze forest cover change within the Mount Elgon  (ME) area in eastern Uganda and western Kenya between 2000 and 2017.  Only some of the results are shown here. 

Results

Forest cover change in the Mount Elgon. Forest loss is shown in red and occurs mostly within high mountain elevations. Forest gain is shown in yellow. Brightest pixels indicate dense forest cover.
